More information

Our 2nd annual event in 2004 was an even bigger success, as we enjoyed a full field of golfers and were able to raise over $17,000 for melanoma research at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

The golf classic was held on Friday, September 24 at Bristow Manor Golf Club. It was a beautiful, sunny day. Ruth’s Chris Steak House of Fairfax provided free appetizers for our participants during registration and ran a putting contest, which was a new addition to our event.

The Foundation welcomed Mike and Joanne Lingerfelt, and their friends Kay and Rick Burch as members of our organizing committee this year. Mike was undergoing treatment for mucosal melanoma and had been interested in raising money through a golf tournament, when Dr. Hwu put him in touch with our Foundation. They were a great addition to the team, and Mike was even able to play in the event. Sadly, he passed away in December 2004.

We had 63 hole sponsors this year, and numerous individuals and merchants donated goods and services for use in our auction and raffle. We really appreciate your support! Click here to read the event program, which recognizes all of our sponsors, donors, and participants.

Sheehy Nissan-Mitsubishi of Manassas again provided a car (a Nissan Maxima) and other prizes for a hole-in-one on any of the par 3 holes, but alas, no one collected.

The United States Golf Association provided 2 passes to the 2005 US Open for our auction, as well as golf towels, bag tags, and ticket holders for all participants.
